I thought it might be useful for our customers, old and new, to have a brief overview on our services and facilities here at Saint Leonard Veterinary Centre. We actually have two sites; the main centre is in Derby itself on Osmaston Road, as well as a smaller, satellite premise on Duffield Road in Allestree.
Our Allestree centre is open for consultations from 8am-10am and then 5pm-7pm Monday – Friday and 8am-10am on Saturdays. There is plenty of parking just outside the clinic, which means you don’t have far to carry your small furries.
Our Derby site is open for consultations 9am- Noon and then 2pm-6.30pm Monday – Friday and 9am-12.30pm on Saturdays.
We are a small animal surgery and treat Cats, Dogs, Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and other small companions. One of the things we particularly pride ourselves on is offering a high quality, individual service where we strive to ensure that you see your own vet each time you visit. Animals like continuity and routine, and we believe that seeing a familiar face makes things less stressful for them at a time when they may be feeling a little fragile.
The practice itself holds Accredited Practice status, which is awarded by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) and I personally have completed my Certificate in Surgery and hold RCVS Advanced Practitioner Status; this is a status that only about 2% of UK vets have currently managed to attain. Advanced Practitioner status means that Saint Leonards is able to perform more complex Orthopaedic and soft tissue surgical procedures in-house, again making the whole process less stressful for your pet and you.
At our Derby site we have 2 operating theatres equipped with anesthetic monitoring and patient warming facilities, ideal for when we carry out our varied surgical procedures which include Orthopaedic (bone) and Soft Tissue operations. Our diagnostic facilities include digital x-ray machines, Ultrasound scanners, ECG (Heart) and Blood Pressure monitoring, and comprehensive Laboratory services which allow us to obtain many blood test results in as little as 5 minutes.
A fully equipped Dental suite allows us to offer a wide range of oral treatments, from plaque removal through to extractions. We have links with the Pet Blood Bank, and indeed some of our own practices patients have been blood donors.
We are fortunate enough to have an isolation ward too, if we need to quarantine any highly infectious cases without incurring any delay to their treatment or risking cross infection with other patients. Having our own dedicated animal ambulance lets us visit pets at home and transport them directly to us swiftly if they need acute diagnostic procedures carrying out.
For those that visit our derby clinic there is a separate waiting area for cats, as well as separate wards for cats and dogs.
Our registered Veterinary Nurses run free clinics on Saturday morning for animals aged 8 years and over so that we can nip any potential problems in the bud for what are regarded as Senior Citizens in the animal world. Gold Star care for Golden Oldies, if you will!
Thursday is our budget routine visit days with pre-arranged home visits by a Vet and a Veterinary Nurse costing only £15 (as opposed to the normal £100 visit fee), plus any additional treatment costs.
A lovely lady called Lesley primps and preens dogs at our grooming room, Scruffs to Crufts. All dogs are groomed on a one-to-one basis which lets her give them an unparalleled level of service and lets them be truly pampered. Prices include bathing, nail clipping, ear cleaning and gland clearing and start from £12 for small/toy breeds to £55 for large breeds such a St Bernards. Extra charges may be incurred for certain situations (such as extremely matted fur) so we would recommend contacting Lesley beforehand to get her professional opinion.
Weekend and late-night appointments are also available with Lesley, by prior arrangement; just contact her on 07528 771235.
Enjoy the lighter nights; stay safe and well, and be happy.
