In the UK there are many other animals which are kept as pets. We have seen animals such as chinchillas, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, mice, rabbits, rats, snakes, tortoises, chickens and birds of prey. If you decide to have one of these animals as a pet you should think carefully before going ahead and do the relevant research on the animal’s particular husbandry requirements.
Some pets enjoy human contact more than others, so you will need to choose your pet carefully. Don't forget that your pet will need somewhere warm to sleep, a constant supply of water, feeding daily, toys to play with and regular exercise. It can cost in excess of £20 a month to care for a small pet, including food, veterinary care and pet insurance; there will be other costs, including buying housing and toys. Your pet will also need looking after when you go on holiday.
Chinchillas can live up to 14 years old and older, rabbits up to 13 years old, guinea pigs up to 8 years old, and other small pets can live up to 2 or 3 years old.
